Railroading Merit Badge, Strasburg PA  May 16th and 17th.

UPDATED with new pictures (June 2008)

We had a great time on the way to earning this Merit Badge. Here's some pics from the trip:

Due to rain, the campsite was kind enough to loan us their "hard tent".  Four intrepid Scouts however insisted on tent camping (seen to right of "hard tent".)

Preview of the train ride on the Historic Strasburg Railroad through beautiful Amish countryside.

The day started early followed by an hour of class work to go over the material we'd be covering for the day.  After the class session, it was time for some practical application.

The boys had to work in teams to hook-up and drop-off various cars over a very complex track...hit the wrong switch? Your train derails....Great practical learning experience:

That was followed by a live steam engine demonstration and then....LUNCH!

After lunch, we headed over to the Strasburg Railroad for a ride on an authentic steam train...

The boys watch the train pulling in:

Group photo!

Ready to go!

Then we returned to the museum for a personal tour...the boys even got to see inside some of the "exhibits"...

Great trip!
